MANILA, Philippines — Greg Slaughter will take the place of the injured Roger Pogoy in the Gilas Pilipinas lineup for the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
A back injury suffered during TNT’s PBA Governors Cup quarterfinal game against Magnolia forced Pogoy out of the 12-man lineup. The Philippine team secured a medical release for the guard.
Gilas head coach Tim Cone was choosing among the Ginebra trio of Slaughter, Art dela Cruz, and Scottie Thompson.
He decided to go with Slaughter, who won gold in the 2011 edition of the SEA Games.
Slaughter was previously dealing with a thumb injury but was deemed fit enough to compete for the Philippines.
Gilas opens its SEA Games campaign on Wednesday against Singapore.
