PASAY CITY, Philippines — While some expected a dogfight in Game 1 of the UAAP finals, former Ateneo superstar Chris Tiu thought otherwise.

Tiu said that he expected La Salle to have an easy time against Ateneo.

"I thought La Salle would be in cruise control which they did in the first half. But Ateneo just really inched their way back and even took the lead towards the game," Tiu told ABS-CBN News.

Despite the loss, Tiu had nothing but encouraging words for a Blue Eagles team he took all the way to the title in 2008.

"I've never felt so proud of team that lost a game. They carried themselves the way they competed. I am proud of the community," Tiu said.

"Unfortunately, just a few turnovers in the end game that mattered. Overall it's a great effort."

Tiu offered some suggestions on what Ateneo should do in Game 2 on Wednesday.

"It seems that they [Ateneo] have a hard time in the half-court set. [They should] execute better, try to penetrate to get better, open shots. A lot of their shots were challenged, were really difficult and cut down on turnovers," said Tiu, who plays for Rain or Shine in the PBA.
