MANILA, Philippines — The action in Game 1 of the UAAP Season 79 men's basketball finals between the De La Salle Green Archers and the Ateneo Blue Eagles nearly spilled onto the stands at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.

Former Batangas vice-governor Mark Leviste, an alumnus of De La Salle University, was seen approaching the Ateneo bench during a timeout in the third quarter and had to be restrained by security.

ABS-CBN sports broadcaster TJ Manotoc shared images of the scene.

Leviste was eventually sent back to his seat in the patron section but not before drawing the attention of fans of both schools.

Leviste defended himself on Twitter, claiming he was provoked by a member of the Ateneo coaching staff.

La Salle won, 67-65, to move to within one victory of claiming the UAAP Season 79 title.
