Filipino fighter Mark Barriga fell short in his IBF mini-flyweight title against Mexico's Carlos Licona at Staples Centre, Los Angeles Sunday (Manila time).

Despite rallying strong in the second half of the bout, the Filipino Olympian did not get the judges' nod and lost via split decision.

Two of the judges saw it 115-113 for Licona, while the other scored it 115-113 for Barriga.

With the win, Licona (14-0) became the new IBF mini flyweight king while handing Barriga's first career defeat in 10 fights.

The bout took place right after Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury fought to a controversial split draw
