Tab Baldwin on Tuesday said it is not easy to pick a winner between Adamson University and University of the Philippines in their do-or-die semifinals battle on Wednesday.
The head coach of early finalist Ateneo de Manila University said the two teams have contrasting playing styles.
"I think Adamson has proven itself a very intelligent team. The way they approached their games they used the tactical mind of their coaching staff and the intelligence of their players and they are a very defensive team," he said in an interview on ANC's Gametime.
"On the other hand, UP is an offensive machine. They love the transition game, they love to get out and run. (Bright) Akhuetie is a real force in rebounding and initiating their offense," Baldwin said of the Fighting Maroons.
Although he could not pick a clear winner between the two squads, he said defense could be an indicator of the outcome.
Baldwin said that if UP brings up its defense at par with its offensive might, then Adamson is at a disadvantage.
"Great offensive teams sometime find their defense because of the elevated intensity of the playoffs. They find their defense in the playoffs... if UP comes with an elevated defensive mindset they're probably have a slight advantage," he said.
"But again I think the coaching staff of Adamson, they understand that. So they're gonna try to make the game slow, they will try to keep UP in the half court. If they do that, it could be the better defensive team will win the game."
"It's gonna be interesting... good luck to both of them, we don't really have a preference, get get what we get."
