MANILA, Philippines – The combined forces of the University of the Philippines (UP) Pep Squad and the UP Filipiniana Dance Group were good enough for six medals in the 2nd Asian Cheerleading and Dancesport Championship this weekend in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The UP Pep Squad and the UP Filipiniana Dance Group represented the Philippines in the event, and came home with a gold medal in the mixed group stunts.
They also won silver medals in the all-female team cheer, cheerdance duo, and cheerdance group categories, according to UP professor Eloi Hernandez, who was with the team in Jakarta.
The team also won bronze in the all-female group stunts and mixed team cheer category as well.
The UP Pep Squad did not compete in the 2016 UAAP Cheerdance Competition and instead focused its energies on the regional event.
According to ABS-CBN Sports, the Asian Cheerleading and Dancesport Championship serves as the qualifiers to the Cheerleading World Championships (CWC).
The UP Pep Squad won three bronzes in the 2015 CWC held in Berlin, Germany.
