MANILA, Philippines – Golden Boy Promotion’s (GBP) Oscar de la Hoya applauded Manny Pacquiao for finally asking for a Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight.

The retired boxing great immediately gave his reaction through social networking site Twitter after hearing the news.

“@OscarDeLaHoya Let's give thanks to manny pacquiao for having a press conference wanting the Mayweather fight,” he said.

Pacquiao announced in a press conference in General Santos City that negotiations for the Mayweather fight are already ongoing.

“Negotiations are ongoing for my fight with Mayweather, but nothing is final," Pacquiao said after his homecoming in General Santos City.

De la Hoya, who promotes Mayweather’s fights, has repeatedly been challenging the Filipino boxer to demand for the fight himself.

De la Hoya claimed that Pacquiao’s promoter, Top Rank’s Bob Arum, is the only one preventing the superfight from happening.

“@OscarDeLaHoya It's about time manny paquiao demands the fight to bob arum,” he said.

Arum earlier said he will give Pacquiao time to rest before discussing the Filipino’s plans.

Pacquiao is coming off a close 12-round fight against Juan Manuel Marquez.

Arum already bared plans to work out another rematch between Pacquiao and Marquez following the Filipino’s controversial majority decision victory over the Mexican.
