MAYNILA -- The coaching staff of the 2019 UAAP Cheerdance Competition grand champions, the National University (NU) Pep Squad, credited teamwork and proper conditioning for the group's back-to-back win.
"Bukod sa coach, I think teamwork ng bawat isa. We prepared so much for this year's competition po talaga. From conditioning, 'yung nutrition na kailangan nila, sports psychology at saka 'yung support ng managers namin at the whole community na talagang sumuporta at pumunta roon, nag-raise ng flag ng Philippines to lift up 'yung spirit ng buong team," Estong Ocampo, dance coach of the NUP Pep Squad, said on "Umagang Kay Ganda" on Tuesday.
Ghicka Bernabe, head coach NU Pep Squad, said the team practices five times a week in the off-season and every day during the season.
"We spend like four hours training time or until five hours of training because if more than, it's very prone to injuries na. We value also their personal time. Hindi kami nag-a-abuse ng mga sarili namin. So maybe that's the secret of our training," Bernabe shared.
"We make sure na 'yung time namin kahit four hours siya ay sulit at nadadaanan namin lahat ng elements,"Ocampo added.
The coaches, meanwhile, thanked all those who supported the squad.
"Nagpapasalamat kami sa aming managers, sila po talaga ang good support namin of course," Bernabe said.
The NU Pep Squad also showed part of their winning routine on the morning program.
