PBA: Devance nakatulong sa panalo ng Gin Kings sa kabila ng foot injury

Para kay coach Tim Cone, malaki ang naiambag ni Joe Devance sa pagkapanalo ng Barangay Ginebra laban sa Magnolia nitong Miyerkoles sa Game 3 ng kanilang best-of-5 PBA Governors' Cup semis.

Aniya, nakatulong ang 36-year-old power forward para mai-facilitate ang kanilang plays, bukod pa sa nagawa nitong madepensahan nang mabuti ang Magnolia import na si Romeo Travis.

Nagawa ito ni Devance sa kabila ng iniindang foot injury.

“If this was not the playoffs, Joe Devance would not be playing… The only reason he's playing is we're down 2-0. You got to give the guy credit, he's coming off a broken toe, hasn't healed all the way yet. He's supposed to take another 2 weeks off,” sabi ni Cone matapos Manalo ang Gin Kings 107-103 kontra Hotshots.

“He made some nice passes, handled the ball, and played defense on the import. That's basically why he's here and helped us get over the hump.”

Naka-score si Devance ng 8 points, 4 rebounds, at 5 assists sa loob ng 27 minutes.

Dahil sa kanilang pagkapanalo, nakakuha ng unang panalo ang Gin Kings sa best-of-5 series, 2-1. Naisalba rin ng defending champions ang kanilang kampanya para maipagpatuloy ang pagdepensa ng kanilang titulo.

Ayon kay Devance, wala sa plano nilang lumaro siya sa Game 3 dahil sa kanyang injury.

"I actually told coach Tim that I wanted to play last game," sabi ni Devance sa PBA.ph. "But him being concerned about my health, he decided to sit me out last game just to be safe.

"But ever since Game 1, I felt bad sitting out. I told myself, I'm not gonna get myself an excuse, can't sit out right now."
