MANILA, Philippines -- University of Santo Tomas (UST) and National University (NU) took down their respective foes in Day 2 of the UAAP Season 82 men's table tennis tournament to remain unbeaten in four ties.

The Tiger Paddlers, the defending champions, dominated on Sunday at the Blue Eagle Gym as they swept Adamson University and University of the Philippines (UP).

UAAP Season 81 Rookie of the Year John Michael Castro paced the Tiger takeover with comprehensive wins over Adamson's John Polido and UP's Tim Cua, both in straight games. The doubles pair of rookie Mcleen Dizon and Odree Maldia then closed it out on both occasions for the titleholders.

For their part, the Bulldogs leaned on the impressive showing from Francis Bendebel who continued to show fine form in his two matches of the day. The third-year stalwart stopped Far Eastern University's(FEU) John Rey Sombilon in just three games, before shaking off University of the East's (UE) Kyle Lanzaderas at 3-1.

NU ultimately won over the Tamaraws and the Red Warriors, both in just three matches.

UE remained at the third spot with its 3-1 record after sweeping UP earlier in the morning. It remains ahead of De La Salle University, which has a 2-2 slate. The Green Paddlers dealt rival Ateneo de Manila University a 3-0 beating in the morning, before taking down Adamson in four matches later in the day.

The other tie saw FEU taking their first win of the season via a sweep of the Blue Eagles.

Meanwhile, La Salle rose to the top of the women's division after shutting down UP, 3-0, in the morning and also claiming a 3-0 sweep of NU in the afternoon session.

Jasmine Tan and Kimberly Sorongon completed the rout on both occasions, picking up where singles players and rookies Crystal Canoos and Rein Teodoro left off.

The Lady Green Paddler duo pulled through a tough second set loss to deny Fellane Labian and Pau Cabrera of UP in four games. They then needed a similar comeback against Romelyn Pacquiao and Amiel Sazon of NU for their squad's fourth straight win.

Ateneo, on the other hand, stunned defending champion UST, 3-1, with Ana Calvo taking the win for the Lady Eagles over Ciara Derecho in straight sets in the third singles rubber.

The win put Ateneo and UST at similar 3-1 win-loss records, ahead of UP and FEU who are both at 2-2. The Lady Eagles also won over the Lady Bulldogs at 3-1, while the Lady Tigress Paddlers earlier swept the Lady Tamaraws.

The Lady Maroons downed Adamson later in the afternoon, while FEU had to clinch the deciding singles match to stop UE to split their assignments.
