MANILA, Philippines -- The Lyceum of the Philippines University men's basketball program will lose four players -- including big man Mike Nzeusseu -- after the NCAA Season 95 tournament.
Nzeusseu, Ralph Tansingco, Jeff Santos, and Spencer Pretta have all bid goodbye to the Pirates after their season-ending 92-88 loss to Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the second phase of the stepladder semifinals last Friday.
The pressing question now for Lyceum and coach Topex Robinson is the fate of the Marcelino twins, Jaycee and Jayvee. They both have one season of eligibility left in the NCAA, after making their debuts in Season 92 when the Pirates swept the elimination round but fell to San Beda University in the finals.
"They still have one year, (but) we don't know what their plan is," said Robinson after their final game of the season.
Jaycee had a team-high 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting, along with 3 rebounds and 3 assists in their slim defeat. Jayvee had 5 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
"Lahat naman binigay namin sa laro," said Jaycee, who led the last-minute rally for Lyceum before they fell short. "Kinapos lang talaga, at sinwerte sila."
"Pero masakit talaga eh," he added, as this marked the first time in their NCAA career that Lyceum won't be competing in the ginals.
"Pinag-iisipan pa namin," said Jaycee. "Kakausapin pa namin 'yung LPU community kung babalik pa kami."
"Ngayon, nasa isip namin na bumawi next year," said Jayvee. "Pero 'yung draft naman kasi, kailangan na namin mairaos pamilya namin."
Jaycee averaged 18.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game in Season 95 en route to a Mythical Team selection. Jayvee, meanwhile, normed 7.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 29 assists per game.
