Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta couldn't resist becoming a basketball fan on Friday, saying that his alma mater, University of Santo Tomas, will emerge victorious in the UAAP Season 82 men's basketball stepladder final 4.
"Wala naman laban 'yung (University of the Philippines). Dalawang beses nang natalo," Peralta said, referring to UST's 2-0 record against the Fighting Maroons in the elimination round.
"Kaya lang baka may tsamba. 'Yun ang delikado."
Peralta said he believes nobody wants to face the Growling Tigers, even the defending champions.
"I think the Ateneans are hoping that the Tigers will lose, kasi mga Ateneo takot sila sa Tigers. Sinabi ni (Blue Eagles) coach (Tab) Baldwin. Malakas ang tsamba. 'Pag naglaban ang UST at UP, baka first half lang alam mo na talo ang UP," the Chief Justice said.
After hearing Peralta's comments, Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, cheering for the Fighting Maroons, said Peralta will be proven wrong.
The UP-UST stepladder game is at 4 p.m. at Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, Nov. 10.
