Nonito Donaire Jr. is definitely a class act.
And he showed this shortly after winning the WBA “Super” bantamweight title when his opponent Ryan Burnett went down with a back injury in the fourth round of their match in Glasgow, Scotland, over the weekend.
Burnett was fighting it out with Donaire when the former hurt his back after throwing a right hand 50 seconds remaining in the round. The Irishman was able to survive for the rest of the frame but eventually surrendered the title.
A post fight video showed what Donaire did following Burnett’s misfortune.
“The Filipino Flash” approached Burnett’s corner and told him: “You're a good man . . . I'm sorry my man. You we're amazing. I'm so sorry, my brother.”
Burnett and his corner graciously accepted Donaire’s kind words.
With his title victory, Donaire advanced to the semifinal round of the World Boxing Super Series bantamweight tournament.
He will next face fellow semifinalist and WBO champion Zolani Tete of South Africa.
