World champion gymnast Carlos Yulo has been tasked to light the Southeast Asian Games cauldron during the opening ceremonies on Nov. 30, ABS-CBN News has learned.
Meanwhile, Hidilyn Diaz will join 5 other athletes who will carry the Philippine flag during the parade of national continents on the same day at Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
Besides Diaz, who won a silver in Olympic weightlifting in 2016, Asian Games skateboarding gold medalist Margielyn Didal, world boxing championships silver medalist Eumir Marcial, Olympic pole-vaulter EJ Obiena, world champion boxer Nesthy Petecio and SEA Games judo champion Kiyomi Watanabe will parade the national colors at the opening.
Top sports officials will hold a press conference to officially announce the development.
Officials said Yulo was assigned the task because they put significant value on his accomplishment at the world artistic gymnastics championship in Germany, last month, when he bagged gold in men's floor exercise, the first such feat by a Filipino in the history of the tournament.
