San Miguel Beer head coach Leo Austria doesn’t mind waiting until middle of next year before Christian Standhardinger suits up for the PBA's most storied franchise.

After going No. 1 in the PBA rookie draft, Standhardinger will play first for Hong Kong Eastern in the ASEAN Basketball League, which runs until about April should the club make it past the elimination round.

"I think sinabi ko na before na we're willing to wait even for one or two years. It's still OK for me as long as we'll have him,” Austria said in a story posted on the PBA website.

Austria knows how Standhardinger’s presence will give him more options especially with the Fil-German’s potential on-court partnership with June Mar Fajardo.

Standhardinger is also expected to develop further when surrounded by a battle-tested, championship-caliber crew.

“He could give a lot of help for our team. Alam mo naman kami, we're always looking for excellence," Austria said.

Standhardinger said he looks forward to wearing the San Miguel jersey.

"I'm very excited. June Mar is a great, great talent. He can do so many things. I'm very excited with all the matchups against us. I really wanna see that. I'm very excited on playing high-low with June Mar and it's an honor and it's a great thing that I can play with a four-time returning MVP. That's what I got, that's what I had, that's what I saw," Standhardinger said.
