MANILA -- When the University of the Philippines (UP) Pep Squad announced on Wednesday its decision to skip this season's UAAP Cheerdance Competition, it began its statement by admitting that last year was "one of the most striking seasons in the history of our team."

"Between this season and the one before, no one can be certain if its been good or bad for the team. All that we know for sure is the hurt we had to endure," the team said.

In Season 78, UP lost to the National University (NU) Pep Squad for the second straight year. UP, in fact, placed third, with University of Santo Tomas taking second place.

The result of last year's contest was so controversial that UP filed a protest regarding the outcome of the competition.

However, UP, which had won eight cheerdance titles, could not reach a resolution with the competition's organizers and thus opted to skip this season's competition.

Let's take a look back at last year's routines from NU and UP.
