MANILA, Philippines – Generika-Ayala went through the wringer before escaping Cocolife in five sets, 25-11, 23-25, 16-25, 25-13, 15-9, in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Darlene Ramdin of Trinidad and Tobago came through with some clutch hits to lead the Lifesavers to their first victory following a sorry straight-set loss to Petron in the opener.
Ramdin erupted for 23 kills and two blocks to finish with 25 points while fellow import Katarina Pilepic of Croatia also had 25 markers for Generika-Ayala, which was locked in an 8-8 tie with the Asset Managers in the fifth set before stepping on the gas and punching the win.
"If everybody is enjoying the game, having fun, gumaganda ang movement and the rest will follow," said Generika-Ayala head coach Francis Vicente.
"I just told the setter to give it to Darlene. Good thing she delivered."
Taylor Milton had 18 points while Tai Manu-Olevao finished with 15 markers for the Asset Managers, who welcomed the return of seasoned setter Tina Salak on a sour note.
