MANILA, Philippines – The NLEX Road Warriors have decided to switch imports, midway through their campaign in the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup.
The team announced on Monday afternoon that they have tapped Manny Harris, a former G-League standout, as their new reinforcement.
He replaces Canadian-Nigerian Olu Ashaolu, who helped NLEX to a 4-1 win-loss record in the conference.
"We thank Olu for helping us get to where we are, for the strong start this conference," NLEX coach Yeng Guiao said in a statement.
"But the opportunity to have Manny Harris opened up for us and we had to make the difficult decision – to grab the chance to realize a long-standing desire to have Manny play for the Road Warriors," he added.
Guiao praised Harris as a "legit NBA talent," as the 30-year-old previously played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Dallas Mavericks. He also had stints in Greece, Turkey, and Ukraine.
Ashaolu, who was NLEX's import in the Governors' Cup last year, was grateful for the opportunity to play in the PBA.
"I enjoyed my time with NLEX. It's a great team atmosphere where everyone came in to work and get better each day," said Ashaolu.
"I have no doubt these guys will continue to fight and surpass people's expectations," he added.
NLEX plays on Wednesday against the Columbian Dyip at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
