MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE) Bennette Revillosa's half court shot to end the second quarter proved to be the go-ahead bucket, as De La Salle University defeated Ateneo de Manila University, 62-53, in the UAAP Season 82 women's basketball tournament on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Revillosa sank a shot from the MOA Arena logo to give the Lady Archers a 32-29 lead at the half, one that they would nurse all the way to the final buzzer.

It was her lone three-point make of the game, to finish with 9 points on 4-of-13 shooting. Charmaine Torres led La Salle with 17 points, while Kent Pastrana had 12 points for the Lady Archers.

"First it was a very emotional game for us. Any time you go up against the other school, it's really a very emotional day," said La Salle coach Cholo Villanueva after the game. "So it was an up-and-down game, very competitive game."

"We just held our composure down the stretch to make the winning plays," he added.

Pastrana's lay-up and a triple from Lee Sario gave the Lady Archers a 37-29 lead early in the third quarter, and the Lady Eagles had to play catch-up the rest of the way. Ateneo came as close as four points, 49-45, after Hazelle Yam knocked down a triple to open the final frame.

But Maureen Okoli nailed two free throws, and Chuchi Paraiso converted a lay-up to restore a 53-45 edge. Ateneo last threatened after Pam Payac nailed back-to-back shots for a 57-53 count, but Torres came through with a tough bucket on the other end to help La Salle fend off the Lady Eagles.

Alyssa Villamor led Ateneo with 12 points -- including her own shot from half court to end the first quarter. Joanne Nimes had 11 points, while Yam finished with 10 markers.

La Salle handed Ateneo its third consecutive defeat, while improving to 4-5 in the tournament to stay in fifth place in the league standings. They are currently 1.5 games behind Far Eastern University and Adamson University for third and fourth places.

"We want to be in a good position," Villanueva said of their Final 4 chances. "So, we don't want to wait for other teams to win or lose games for us to go into the Final 4."

"It's going to be a big mountain to climb, but this is the first step, and it always starts with a first step. Hopefully, we gain momentum going into our next games," he added.

The Lady Eagles, meanwhile, dropped to 3-7 for sixth place.
