MANILA - Defending champion Creamline extended its winning streak after powering past PetroGazz, 25-32, 26-24, 19-25, 25-18, in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference on Sunday at the USLS Coliseum in Bacolod.
The Cool Smashers have now won 13 games, and are assured of the top spot in the Final 4.
Creamline was playing without top spiker Alyssa Valdez, who is still wearing a walking boot on her right foot to prevent aggravation. But the Cool Smashers still had too much firepower, as Jema Galanza put up 25 points on 21 attacks, 2 blocks and 2 aces, while Michele Gumabao contributed 16 points.
Jia Morado controlled the Creamline offense with 22 excellent sets.
The Angels suffered their second straight loss to drop to 9-4.
Meanwhile, BanKo-Perlas claimed a semifinals spot after outlasting Pacifictown-Army, 25-27, 25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 15-9, in the first game.
Sue Roces had 20 points, including 2 blocks and 2 aces, while Dzi Gervacio scored 18 points on top of 12 digs and 9 receptions.
The Pearl Spikers improved to 10-5 and became the second team after Creamline to claim a semis spot.
Nicole Tiamzon added 17 points and 10 digs, while Jem Ferrer had 30 excellent sets.
Royse Tubino led the Lady Troopers with 21 points, including two blocks and two service aces and seven digs while Jovelyn Gonzaga had four blocks for a 20-point outing, to go with 27 digs and 13 receptions.
