The Lady Falcons were unstoppable right from the get-go and took advantage of the Tigresses’ suspect service reception game to complete their conquest.
Adamson University swept its way into the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Collegiate Conference throne on Saturday after an emphatic, 25-19, 25-6, 25-17, win over University of Santo Tomas in Game 2 of the best-of-three Finals at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons were unstoppable right from the get-go and took advantage of the Tigresses’ suspect service reception game to complete their conquest and capture their first major crown since winning it all in the defunct V-League Season 7 second conference back in 2010.
Conference Most Valuable Player Trisha Genesis and the rookie trio of Lucille Almonte, Lorene Toring and setter Louie Romero bannered Adamson’s domination of the match, where the team lost only once against College of Saint Benilde in five sets in the semifinals series opener.
Toring paced the Lady Falcons with 15 points highligted by six kill blocks while Genesis hammered down 10 attacks and landed four aces for 14 markers.
Rookie Rizza Cruz got 10 points while Almonte had nine markers and 10 excellent receptions for Adamson, who nailed 14 aces on top of 12 kill blocks and 33 attack points.
Finals MVP Romero tallied 24 excellent sets and had seven points including four aces for the Lady Falcons, who took the series opener last Wednesday in five sets.
Adamsons dictated the tempo of the match early as they controlled the opening set with superb floor defense and net defense coupled with crisp attacking orchestrated by Romero.
The Lady Falcons took the fight out of UST in the second set after building a 13-1 advantage capped by a Ceasa Pinar attack before cruising to a 2-0 match lead.
Smelling blood after a devastating blow to the Tigresses' confidence in the second set, it didn't took long for Adamson to create enough cushion to break the back of UST and emerge as conference champion.
Eya Laure was the lone bright spot for the Tigresses with 11 points while sister EJ Laure got only four markers.
