Sean Anthony scored 26 points, including a key 3-pointer with 24 seconds to go in the game, as NorthPort downed Meralco 99-94 in the PBA Governors' Cup at Mall of Asia Arena on Friday.
In a game between two teams in danger of being eliminated, the win upped NorthPort's record to 2-6, while Meralco dropped to 1-6.
NorthPort stood at ninth place and Meralco 10th in the 12-team standings, with the ninth to 12th-placed squads being shown the door at the end of the preliminaries.
Rain Or Shine (0-4) and Columbia Dyip (0-8) occupy the 11th and 12th spots, respectively.
After being down by 10 with 6 minutes remaining in the game, Meralco closed in on NorthPort and made it 90-88 on two free throws by Chris Newsome.
But a pair of charities by Mo Tautuaa and a 3-pointer by Stanley Pringle stretched the Batang Pier's lead to 95-88 with 54 seconds left.
After Mike Tolomia answered with his own triple, Anthony sealed the deal for NorthPort with the long-distance bomb off a kickout pass by Tautuaa.
Pringle finished with 24 points and 8 rebounds, to go with 6-of-12 shooting from downtown, while Anthony, who came off the bench, added 4 3-pointers and 3 steals on top of 6-of-6 shooting from the free-throw line.
Pringle and Anthony's 10 combined 3-pointers were more than the entire production of Meralco, which made 8 from long distance.
Allen Durham led the Bolts with 37 points, 19 rebounds and 7 assists.
