MANILA, Philippines -- University of Perpetual Help shook off the ejection of Kim Aurin to overpower Jose Rizal University (JRU), 77-66, in the NCAA Season 95 men's basketball tournament, Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Aurin was ejected with 1:39 left in the first quarter after being tagged with a disqualifying foul for a closed fist thrown at JRU's Chester Jungco. The Altas were up, 19-11, at the time, with Aurin already scoring 6 points.

His absence did not faze the Altas, as they managed to keep the Heavy Bombers at bay all throughout the game. Perpetual led 40-33 at the half, and stretched their lead to double-digits at multiple points in the second.

Stepping up in Aurin's absence was Rey Peralta, who put up a career-best 25 points on top of 9 rebounds in their victory.

"I think the referees should be under control kapag ganyang games," said Perpetual Help coach Frankie Lim after the game. "I think they were giving fouls naman, which resulted into early penalties. Ganoon sila talaga maglaro eh."

Lim was displeased with the disqualifying foul called on Aurin, pointing out that his player was being hurt throughout the game.

"'Yung isang player nila, nasaktan niya, binabali 'yung thumb niya," he bared. "What do you expect him to do? Hindi na basketball 'yun eh."

Lim does not intend to appeal the call, however, and Aurin is expected to be suspended for their next game against Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

Edgar Charcos had 13 points, 9 assists, 5 steals and 4 rebounds, while Ben Adamos tallied 11 points and 12 boards for the Altas.

With the result, the Altas snapped a five-game losing streak to take their record to 5-10 this season. JRU, meanwhile, suffered its fourth straight loss for a 4-11 slate.

Agem Miranda hda 16 points, JL delos Santos scored 12, and Marq Dionisio added 10 points for the Heavy Bombers.

Both teams are already eliminated from the Final 4 race.

UPHSD 77 - Peralta 25, Charcos 13, Adamos 11, Giussani 9, Razon 6, Aurin 6, Labarda 4, Sese 3, Tamayo 0, Martel 0, Sevilla 0, Cuevas 0.
