Matchmaker Sean Gibbons told retired boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. that Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao is just waiting for the American to say yes to a rematch.
Mayweather has previously claimed through his social media account he has been working on an exhibition match between him and Pacquiao in Tokyo.
But Gibbons, who heads MP Promotions, said Pacquiao wants a real 12-round fight.
Joaquin Henson said in a report on Philboxing that Gibbons and Mayweather had a chance encounter at ringside during the recent Las Vegas card featuring Errol Spence and Shawn Porter in the main event.
“We laughed about the exhibition in Japan,” Gibbons said. “I told him the senator is ready to go when he is … 12 rounds in 2020.”
Mayweather refused to comment about Gibbons’ proposal and laughed instead.
“Floyd is a tremendous poker player,” he said. “He laughed when I told him 12 rounds in 2020.”
Gibbons said Mayweather is apparently waiting for Pacquiao to slow down especially after he saw the Filipino run down Keith Thurman last July.
