Ateneo de Manila University yet again aced a tough test put up by University of Santo Tomas, winning 66-52 in UAAP Season 82 men's basketball at Mall of Asia Arena Saturday.
The Growling Tigers were the team that came closest to beating the Blue Eagles in the first round, but this time the defending champs left no doubt about the outcome.
Ateneo raised its record to 8-0, while UST dropped to 4-4 but still in 3rd place in the standings.
The game was a slog after until midway through the second quarter when Thirdy Ravena scored all but three points in a 10-0 run that sent Ateneo ahead, 26-15.
The Blue Eagles remained in front thereon, thanks to a stout defense that clamped down on their opponents' high-octane offense.
"That was tough, really tough game. They made our lives miserable especially in the fourth quarter when they started making shots," Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin said.
