MANILA -- Highly touted scorer Alvin Pasaol and do-it-all Santi Santillan have decided to put off their plans to join the PBA Rookie Draft this year.
Instead, the two will be staying in the 3X3 league with hopes of joining the Tokyo Olympics.
"'Di muna ako magpapa-draft this year," Pasaol, a former University of the East star who famously scored 49 points in a game, told ABS-CBN Sports.
"Itutuloy ko 'yung campaign ko na sinimulan ko for 3x3. Tatapusin natin ito - pupunta tayo ng Olympics."
Santillan, who played for De La Salle University, said he already got his family's approval to stay in 3X3.
"Kapag naglalaro ka sa 3x3, may chance ka makalaban 'yung best of the best sa ibang bansa kaya grabe 'yung commitment ko rito," Santillan said.
The stalwarts of Wilkins Balanga played major roles in the country's rise from No. 59 to No. 21 in the world 3X3 rankings.
Only the top 24 teams in the world are allowed to join the 3x3 Olympic qualifying tournament.
