BMX rider Caluag bags PH's 1st gold in Asiad

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines finally won a gold medal in the 2014 Asian Games on Wednesday.

Daniel Caluag clinched the gold after dominating the BMX cycling event in Incheon, South Korea.

Caluag, who represented the Philippines in the 2012 London Olympics, topped the competition after three runs in the men's motos.

He submitted a time of 35.277 seconds in the first run, then followed it up with 35.366 seconds in the second run. Caluag closed the final run with a time of 35.431 seconds.

Masahiro Sampei of Japan came in at second while Yan Zhu of China settled for the bronze.

Earlier, Filipino jins Paul Marton dela Cruz and Samuel Morrison won two bronze medals for the the Philippines.

The country now has 1 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals in this year's Asiad.
