MANILA, Philippines – One game after being commended by his coach for a breakout game, Far Eastern University (FEU) big man Patrick Tchuente was held completely in check by University of Santo Tomas (UST).

Tchuente was nearly unstoppable against De La Salle University last week, as he put up 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting, while grabbing 11 rebounds and tallying 2 blocks. It was his best game of the UAAP Season 82 tournament, and he helped the Tamaraws secure a 66-55 win over the Green Archers.

Afterward, FEU coach Olsen Racela lauded Tchuente, noting: "I expect a lot from Patrick. Ang role niya really is to protect the paint, neutralize the opposing team's import or foreign student-athlete, and I think he has been doing a good job of that. But now, he did more."

Unfortunately for FEU, Tchuente could not build on his superb game. The Cameroonian center was held scoreless by the Growling Tigers on Sunday, as he missed all five of his shots. He did have six rebounds, but could not contain UST counterpart Soulemane Chabi Yo who broke loose for 21 points and 15 rebounds.

UST head coach Aldin Ayo acknowledged that they paid special attention to Tchuente, who was also forced into three turnovers.

"He is a foreigner, so he gets the attention," said Ayo, after his team's 82-74 triumph. "That's why we prepared how to defend him, we prepared how to defend their bigs."

It wasn't just Chabi Yo who neutralized Tchuente. Also giving the FEU center a hard time were Dave Ando and Ira Bataller.

"I think our bigs did a good job," said Ayo.

Chabi Yo, for his part, said he simply followed the instructions of their coaching staff on what do on both ends of the floor.

"Everything will come from the coach," said Chabi Yo, the league's leading scorer and rebounder. "Whatever they tell you to do, you have to do it. And be confident and that will help the team out. So just give your best especially on defense."

With the win, UST improved to 4-2 in the tournament, good for solo third place. FEU dropped to 2-3, tied for fifth and sixth place with De La Salle University.
