MANILA, Philippines – Trainer Freddie Roach is confident that his ward, boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, will be able to downsize the taller Antonio Margarito of Mexico.

Come fight night on November 13, Roach said “Tijuana Tornado” Margarito will face a "tropical storm."

“We will knock him out, I promise. The tornado is being downsized with a tropical storm,” Roach told ABS-CBN’s Dyan Castillejo.

Roach is training the Filipino boxer at the Elorde Gym in Quezon City until Saturday.

“It's a great place (Elorde Gym) to work out. We got heat. It's always warm here... It works out well, and Manny is comfortable here. So as long as Manny is happy, I'm happy,” said the boxing coach.

On Sunday, Team Pacquiao will take their camp to Baguio City, where they will begin sparring sessions.

On his first day of training, Pacquiao spent 7 rounds doing the mitts. On Thursday, he extended his mitt sessions to 10 rounds.

Pacquiao even accidentally knocked down Roach through a combination to the body.

The Filipino champion will spend 3 weeks of training in Baguio City before flying to Los Angeles for the remainder of his preparation.

Pacquiao stuffs self

Pacquiao, meanwhile, said in his Philboxing column “Kumbinasyon” on September 23 that he is eating a lot in order to bring his weight up.

“Ngayong panahon ng paghahanda para sa laban, inumpisahan ko na namang kumain ng labis, halos isang bandehadong kanin at ulam ang aking pilit na inuubos sa bawat pagharap sa hapag-kainan,” he said.

(At this stage of preparation for the fight, I again started eating more, a plateful of rice and meat each time I sit in front the table).

His conditioning coach Alex Ariza also forces him to take lots of supplements and protein shakes to maintain his muscle mass.

The Filipino has to bulk himself up against the taller and stronger Margarito.

The Mexican stands 5’11” while Pacquiao is 5’6.5”. -- With a report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News
