PBA: NorthPort, Columbian Dyip score wins as Governors’ Cup opens

NorthPort weathered a fourth-quarter fightback by Rain Or Shine to complete a 99-94 triumph over the Elasto Painters on Friday in the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Friday.

Mychal Ammons paced the Batang Pier with 25 points and 19 rebounds, while Robert Bolick delivered 20 points for NorthPort.

The Batang Pier led by as many as 24 points, but Rain Or Shine managed to rally to within 3 points in the fourth before NorthPort held the Elasto Painters off.

Kevin Ferrer added 12 points for the Batang Pier, while Joel Wright and Rey Nambatac had 22 and 19, respectively, for Rain Or Shine.

In the other game, Columbian Dyip spoiled Jeffrey Cariaso's coaching debut for Alaska, outlasting the Aces 117-110.

Khapri Alston scored 38 points for Columbian, which also got 28 points from CJ Perez.

The loss was a double-whammy for Alaska, which lost Noy Baclao in the fourth quarter after he hurt his knee following a collision with Columbian's Andreas Cahilig.
