MANILA – Former PBA star Kenneth Duremdes will be taking over the coaching reins of Adamson University in the next UAAP men’s basketball season.
According to Patricia Hizon’s Yahoo.ph report, “Captain Marvel” will be replacing longtime Falcons’ coach Leo Austria who earlier announced that he will be taking a break from coaching.
Duremdes, the 1998 MVP and the 2000 All-Filipino Best Player of the Conference, played for Alaska, Sta. Lucia and Coca Cola.
In 2000, he was named among PBA's 25 Greatest Players.
Joining Duremdes in his coaching staff are fellow former PBA players Marlou Aquino and Vince Hizon.
Aquino will be in charge of coaching the Falcons’ big men, while Hizon will serve as the team’s shooting and offensive skills coach.
Both Duremdes and Aquino were former Adamson players.
After failing to steer the Falcons to the Final Four, Austria said he will no longer extend his contract with Adamson and will give the university a free hand in choosing his replacement.
“I think this will be my last season in the UAAP not because I’m going to the PBA but I want them to have a change,” said Austria in Reuben Terrado’s Spin.ph report.
Austria said some members of the Adamson community are beginning to lose confidence in him.
“We were doing well [at that time]… They see good things from me. But after the losing, everything has changed especially in the community,” he said.
