MANILA - Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will first watch the “Number One vs Numero Uno” showdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez before finally locking himself up in training for his November 14 fight.
The Mayweather-Marquez fight could determine Pacquiao’s next opponent should he successfully hurdle World Boxing Organization champion Miguel Cotto on November 14.
Pacquiao’s training camp for the Cotto fight is scheduled to start on September 21 in Baguio City.
His boxing coach Freddie Roach will be joining him sometime next week, and will bring along a set of sparring mates for the General Santos native.
“Si Coach Freddie mismo ang pupunta dito… dadalhin din daw n’ya ‘yung apat na boxer na ka-sparring at ka-training ko,” said the pound-for-pound king.
According to Pacquiao’s chief-of-staff Jake Joson, everything is already set up in the Baguio gym where his boss will be training.
The security around the gym will be handled by no less than avid Pacquiao supporter and deputy national security adviser Luis “Chavit” Singson.
Joson said that anyone who wants to visit Pacquiao will have to secure Singson’s permission to lessen the boxer’s distraction from training.
