MANILA, Philippines -- University of the Philippines (UP) and University of Santo Tomas (UST) will try to put together a winning streak when they take on separate opponents in the UAAP Season 82 men's basketball tournament on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Fighting Maroons open the triple-header against a still-winless National University squad at 10:30 a.m., followed by the showdown between the Growling Tigers and the Adamson University Soaring Falcons at 12:30 p.m.

Far Eastern University (1-2) and De La Salle University (1-2), both coming off defeats, look to get back on track at 4 p.m.

UP snatched victory from the jaws of defeat on Sunday afternoon, rallying past Adamson in overtime, 83-82, behind a pair of clutch free throws by reigning MVP Bright Akhuetie. That gave the Fighting Maroons a 2-1 win-loss record.

They go up against an NU team that has lost all three of their games in heartbreaking fashion, and UP head coach Bo Perasol insists that they cannot afford to slip up against the "very dangerous" Bulldogs.

"They're a very well-coached team, it's just that they haven't had the luck in the last three games that they had," he said.

UST is also coming off an overtime win, having taken an 87-74 triumph over NU also last Sunday. That game saw Soulemane Chabi Yo nail the game-tying lay-up with two seconds left in regulation, before the Tigers dominated the overtime period behind Rhenz Abando.

At 3-1, UST sits at solo second place in the league. Coach Aldin Ayo is looking to keep their momentum going against an Adamson squad that is trying to rebound from a painful defeat.

"Kahit nagpalit ng mga players, wala namang nagbago sa Adamson eh, kasi their system is in place eh," Ayo said of the Franz Pumaren-mentored team. "

"'Yan ang kagandahan ng 'pag may sistema, magpalit man ng magpalit ng mga players, magpalit man ng magpalit ng materyales, as long as the system is in place, maglalaro pa rin ng maiigi 'yan, magko-compete pa rin ng maiigi 'yan."
