MANILA, Philippines -- Allyn Bulanadi is proving to be the man of the hour for San Sebastian College in the NCAA Season 95 men's basketball tournament.
Bulanadi fired a career-high 32 points to tow the Golden Stags to a fifth straight win at the expense of De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, 83-67, last Thursday.
Making 11 of his 21 shots, including five three-pointers, the 6-foot-2 forward reset his previous career-best of 31 points, which he made during San Sebastian's 107-90 triumph over University of Perpetual Help just three weeks ago.
His offensive explosion powered the Stags' conquest of a fellow Final 4 contender, and earned Bulanadi the Chooks-to-Go Collegiate Press Corps NCAA Player of the Week award.
"Sa akin lang, nagpapasalamat ako kay Coach Egay (Macaraya) at sa coaching staff, dahil sa suporta nila, 'di lang sa akin kundi sa'ming lahat," said Bulanadi.
"Kailangan ko lang gampanan 'yung role ko," he added. "'Yung trust na binigay nila sa 'kin, kailangan ko lang suklian para rin sa kanila at para sa Baste," he added.
Bulanadi has taken up the scoring cudgels for the Golden Stags, as he wants to lead them not just back to the Final 4 but also to a first NCAA championship in a decade before closing out his collegiate career.
"'Yung individual award, laging pangalawa lang 'yan," said Bulanadi, who is third in the MVP race after the first round. "'Yung goal talaga sa'min is 'yung championship."
Bulanadi bested Noah Lugo of Mapua University, Donald Tankoua of San Beda University, and Reymar Caduyac of Lyceum of the Philippines University for the weekly recognition given by print and online scribes covering the country's oldest collegiate league.
