MANILA, Philippines – After leaving the Alaska Aces, veteran American coach Tim Cone has signed up with B-Meg Derby Ace.
In an interview with NBN-4 sports journalist Snow Badua, Cone said he is confident that he’ll help the Llamados win a title in the coming 37th season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
“Yes, definitely. We will get that championship,” Cone told Badua.
Badua posted parts of the interview on his Twitter account.
Cone also said that he is pleased to have former PBA star Johnny Abbarientos train Mark Barroca, who was acquired by the Llamados in a multi-player deal that involved newbie Bryan Ilad and Don Allado.
“I am so happy to have JOHNNY ABARRIENTOS mentor MARK BARROCA. They have the same style of playing,” he told Badua.
Cone, long been rumored to be recruited by B-Meg, was released by the Alaska management early this month.
He is known for leading Alaska to 13 PBA titles, including a rare PBA Grandslam in 1996.
