The Philippine national football team rebounded from their loss against Syria with a 4-1 beating of Guam in the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Angel Guirado and Patrick Reichelt each scored a goal in the first half of the match that took place at Guam's home turf at Guam F.A. National Training Center in Dededo, Tuesday.

Staphan Schrock scored a follow up, while Patrick Strauss scored his first international goal to close it out for the Azkals.

Smarting from its 5-2 defeat to Syria last week, the Azkals quickly went to work and scored the opening goal in the 6th minute courtesy of Guirado. Reichelt padded the lead for the Pinoy side with another strike 6 minutes later.

But Guam refused to back down as Marcus Lopez scored on a penalty kick for Guam in the 70th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Schrock swiftly prevented Guam from mounting a rally, responding with a goal of his own in the 78th minute, followed by the closer from Strauss.

The Philippines hopes to finish on top of their group, or at a least have one of the best four runner-up records among the 8 groups, to advance to the next round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
