MANILA, Philippines – Athletes of the Ateneo de Manila University could not hide their delight on social media after their former courtside reporter, Laura Lehmann, was crowned Miss World Philippines 2017 on Sunday night.
Lehmann, a former member of the national softball team who also served as Ateneo's courtside reporter in the UAAP in Seasons 77 and 78, will represent the nation in the Miss World 2017 pageant in China in November.
Her crowning moment was celebrated by Ateneo athletes on social media, many of whom struck up a friendship with Lehmann during her time as a courtside reporter.
Indeed, Ateneo phenoms Kiefer Ravena and Alyssa Valdez were present at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday night to witness Lehmann's triumph.
Also offering their congratulations were Ateneo volleyball stars like Jia Morado, Rex Intal, and Gretchen Ho.
Of course, leading the way in celebrating Lehmann's triumph was her longtime beau, former Ateneo Blue Eagle and current San Miguel Beerman, Von Pessumal.
Pessumal, who is coming off a successful stint with Gilas Pilipinas in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games, later posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, where he asked for Lehmann to "go and conquer the world."
Aside from winning the crown, Lehmann was also named Miss Cosmo Skin, Miss BYS Philippines and the Multimedia Fast Track winner.
Lehmann, who also joined Binibining Pilipinas in 2014 and finished as a runner-up, is trying to become only the second Filipina beauty queen to win the Miss World pageant, after Megan Young's breakthrough in 2013.
