Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) vice chairman Ricky Vargas will reportedly meet with the top executives of the LA Lakers regarding the possible inclusion of their rookie, Filipino-American Jordan Clarkson, in Gilas Pilipinas' roster.
Clarkson, who has expressed keen interest about suiting up for Gilas, still needs the approval of the Lakers’ management and his father Mike Clarkson before he can join the Philippine national team for the FIBA Asia Championship this September.
Vargas will also meet Clarkson's parents, according to a report by Ronnie Nathanielsz in Philboxing.
Vargas said the 23-year-old is determined to join the Philippine national team.
“[Clarkson] is committed. He is more than just a basketball player. He wants to get involved in the Gilas program. He is not a mercenary,” said the SBP exec.
Dormer PBA chairman Patrick Gregorio said Clarkson, whose mother is a Filipina, wants to be part of the team for the next 10 years.
“Imagine a 23-year-old telling us about his clear vision for the Philippine team."
