The number thrown out recently by UFC president Dana White could shatter the record for pay-per-view buys set two years ago by Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
In a video posted on Instagram by Sports Illustrated MMA writer Mike Dyce on Wednesday, White said Saturday's Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight drew 6.5 million PPV buys. (The video contains profanity. Viewer discretion is advised.)
White didn't specify though if the number pertained to North American or worldwide sales.
Either way, White's number would reset the record.
Pacquiao-Mayweather in 2015 collected 4.6 million PPV view buys in North America and 5.5 million globally, according to Tyler Conway of BleacherReport.com.
Mayweather defeated McGregor via 10th round TKO.
