Japanese champion Naoya “The Monster” Inoue revealed that he has long wanted to fight Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr.

The Japanese knockout artist, who holds the WBA “regular” and IBF bantamweight titles, believes that fighting a legend such as Donaire will be good for his career.

The two will clash in the final of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) bantamweight tournament where the prized Muhammad Ali trophy will be at stake. The fight will also serve as a title unification since Donaire owns the “super” version of the WBA bantamweight belt and the WBC Diamond title.

“When this tournament started, Nonito Donaire was the fighter I wanted to fight most,” Inoue told Boxing Scene.

“I am truly pleased that I am able to fight him in the final of this tournament. So, on November 7th I will give everything I have in this tournament final and attain the Ali Trophy.”

Donaire, who revitalized his career by returning to the bantamweight ranks, looks forward to meeting the young gun.
“This fight is against Inoue who is one of the best fighters in the world,” said the 36-year-old.

“To see where my career has been and what people have said about where I am and coming back to the division, it inspires me, it motivates me, but most of all it excites me. This is where I wanna be.”
