The Philippine women’s football team bowed to Vietnam, 2-1, in their semifinal showdown in the AFF Women’s Championship in Chonburi, Thailand on Sunday afternoon.
The Philippine team was making its first semifinal appearance in the tournament, after placing second in Group A behind defending champion Thailand.
The loss relegated the Filipinas to the third-place battle against the loser of the other semifinal between Thailand and Myanmar.
The Philippines took the lead in the 34th minute after a costly error by Vietnam’s defense led to an own goal.
But they equalized in the 41st minute, before finally taking the lead in the 58th.
Despite the Philippines’ best efforts, they were unable to find an equalizer.
