JAKARTA -- Daniel Calaug failed to defend his crown in the Asian Games men’s BMX and settled for the bronze medal on Saturday.

Caluag, who won the Philippines’ lone gold in the Incheon Asiad 4 years ago, finished with a time of 35.842 seconds at the Pulo Mas International BMX center here.

He was 2.173 seconds behind gold medalist Nagasako Yoshitaku of Japan (33.669). Indonesia’s Saputra I Gusti Bagus took the silver, with a time of 34.314 seconds.

Sienna Fines placed fifth in the women’s BMX final, a little over 4 seconds behind gold medalist Zhang Yaru of China.

With Caluag’s feat, the Philippines now have 7 bronzes in the Asiad. The country has one gold courtesy of weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz.
