MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion San Beda University stamped its class over College of St. Benilde, 88-57, in the NCAA Season 95 men's basketball tournament on Friday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Against the second-ranked team in the league, the Red Lions got off to a strong start and never took their foot off the pedal in cruising to their 8th consecutive victory of the season.

Calvin Oftana shone once again for San Beda, resetting his career-high with 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting, while adding 9 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist.

AC Soberano made four of his eight three-pointers for 14 points, while James Canlas had 11 points, 7 boards, and 4 assists.

Oftana and Donald Tankoua combined for 12 points in the first quarter to outscore the Blazers, and they never looked back from there.

San Beda would shoot 48.57% from the field while making 11 of their 29 three-pointers, and tallied a 49-33 rebounding edge.

The champions were also on point defensively as they limited St. Benilde to only 30.51% shooting. The Blazers' main man, Justin Gutang, only had five field goal attempts and finished with 10 points and 7 assists.

Oftana, by his lonesome, outscored the CSB starters, 27-22.

The Red Lions, who have now won 22 straight games since last season, tightened their grip on the top spot in the league standings.

St. Benilde, meanwhile, dropped to 5-2 in the tournament.
