MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas (UST) made quick work of Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-18, 25-13, 25-21, in the PVL Collegiate Conference on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Former UAAP Rookie of the Year EJ Laure has skipped the past two collegiate seasons due to injury, but made her formal return to the Tigresses in the game.
She scored two points in limited minutes, including the match-winner off a combination play.
Imee Hernandez paced UST with 9 points, while Janna Torres added 8 markers. Ysa Jimenez suffered an ankle injury before the start of the match, but it was still a straightforward win for the Golden Tigresses.
UST got 34 points off Lyceum's errors, and tallied 9 aces including one from Laure.
Mary Joy Onofre led the Lady Pirates with 9 points.
Meanwhile, Arellano University also racked up a quick victory by sweeping the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) Lady Engineers, 25-12, 25-7, 25-12.
Necole Ebuen and Regine Arocha each had 10 points for the reigning NCAA champions, who wrapped up the match in just 69 minutes. The Lady Chiefs had a massive 39-14 advantage in kills, and took 26 points from TIP's errors.
In a match-up between two storied NCAA programs, University of Perpetual Help downed San Sebastian College in four sets, 25-14, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17.
