Gizelle Tan stepped big time in the absence of main playmaker Jem Ferrer as BanKo returned to the win column with a 25-13, 25-18, 25-19, domination of Air Force Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Tan, who was converted to setter from libero position with Ferrer still recovering from dengue, held the ailing Perlas Spikers together for a mighty bounce for a 2-1 win-loss record.

The Ateneo de Manila University product dished out 26 excellent sets to help BanKo hammer 47 attacks.

“We were also worried because Gizelle got sick also, she skipped practice two days ago,” said Dzi Gervacio, who led the Perlas Spikers with 19 points including 17 kills and three excellent receptions.

“‘Yun yung magkakasunod si Jem wasn’t feeling well noong game pa namin noong Wednesday [against PacificTown Army] and right after that she went straight to the hospital,” added Gervacio. “Confirmed it was dengue and at the same time Gizelle was suffering from a viral infection pala so we were worried na baka dengue rin buti na lang it wasn’t.”
