Defending champion Creamline displayed its firepower anew as the Cool Smashers spoiled the debut of Motolite, 25-14, 25-15, 25-14, on Wednesday for their second straight win in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Veterans Jema Galanza, Michele Gumabao and Alyssa Valdez picked up from where they left off as they paced Creamline in its clinical beating of Motolite to climb at solo top spot.
Valdez led the way with 15 points collected from 12 spikes and three aces while Galanza had a solid all-around performance with 12 markers 15 digs and 10 excellent receptions while Gumabao provided nine points for the Cool Smashers' cause.
"It's all about preparation for us. And 'yun naman yung talagang puhunan namin each and every game, yung trainings and our teamwork," said Gumabao. "Mas pinapabuti lang namin every single game. They asked us nga kanina na how does it feel na first time namin manalo yung first game of the season. Yun nga pinapaalahanan ni coach Tai na never settle."
The Cool Smashers buckled down to business right from the opening serve for a fitting follow up to their straight sets drubbing of Philippine Air Force last Sunday.
Motolite never got a chance to fight back as they were outgunned by Creamline, 22-40, and only had four excellent sets overall despite having three setters in its lineup.
Myla Pablo, who for the first time this season started in all of the sets, was the only Motolite player in double figures with 11 points with all but one coming off attacks. Tots Carlos had seven markers and 12 digs in a lost cause.
