Football: PH women's team all set for AFF tilt

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine women's national team is all set to compete in the 2019 AFF Women's Championship that will be held in Chonburi, Thailand from August 15 to 27.

The Philippines was drawn in Group A, along with host Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Timor-Leste.

To prepare for the tournament, the squad held a closed camp at the Moro Lorenzo Field in the Ateneo de Manila University campus. They also faced off against Macau in a friendly last August 3, winning 11-0.

"The Philippine women's national team has continuously set the bar in recent times," said PFF secretary-general Atty. Edwin Gastanes. "We wish them luck as they look for a podium finish in the AFF Women's Championship."

The tournament is part of the team's preparation for the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games, which will be held in Manila this November 2019.

Marnelli Dimzon will call the shots for the team, to be assisted by Gerald Orcullo and goalkeeping coach Melo Sabacan.

The team opens its campaign against Malaysia on Thursday, followed by Timor Leste on August 17, Thailand on August 21, and Singapore on August 23.
