MANILA - The Philippine Lady Volcanoes completed a perfect run in the 2019 Asia Rugby Women's Sevens Trophy, beating host nation Indonesia 26-7 for the gold medal, Sunday evening in Jakarta.
Tries by Aldee Denuyo, Aiumu Ono, and Helena Indigne allowed the Philippines to take control of the game.
With the result, the Lady Volcanoes gained promotion to the Asia Rugby Women's Seven Series next season.
Prior to beating Indonesia, the Philippines shut out Qatar, 27-0, and Laos, 24-0.
They then beat India, 19-12, to advance to the gold medal round.
The team's participation in the Women's Sevens Trophy is still part of their preparation for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, which the country is hosting later this year.
