(UPDATED) Australia set a semifinals date with Batang Gilas, after it defeated Japan 88-52 in the FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship at Stadium 29 in Bangkok on Thursday.

The last-4 meeting between the two countries' boys sides comes 5 weeks after they faced each other in a 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifying game at Philippine Arena on July 1, which ended in a brawl and with the sport's world-governing body suspending more than a dozen players.

Australia and the Philippines head into their game carrying identical 4-0 records.

The Philippines advanced to the semifinals with a 67-52 over Bahrain earlier.

Their game is at 6:45 p.m. on Friday.

In the other final-4 pairing, New Zealand and China dispute the other berth in the title game.

In the quarterfinals, Japan kept in step with Australia, until the latter went on a 14-4 run to close the first quarter ahead 23-13.

Coach Darren Perry and his crew never looked back en route to the easy win.

Forward Kyle Bowen led Australia with 22 points.
