MANILA, Philippines – Filipino weightlifter Nestor Colonia bowed out of contention in the men's 56-kg event of the weightlifting competition in Rio de Janeiro after making only one of six possible lifts on Sunday (early Monday in Manila).

Hours after Hidilyn Diaz had ended the Philippines' 20-year medal drought by winning the silver in the women's 53-kg event, all eyes turned to Colonia.

Colonia lifted 120-kg in his first attempt in the snatch, but failed to lift 125-kg in his next two tries.

He then failed to complete all three of his attempts in the clean and jerk, where he was trying to lift 154-kg.

China's Long Qingquan won the gold after lifting a combined weight of 207-kg – a new world and Olympic record.

North Korea's Om Yun Chol settled for silver after lifting 303-kg, and Thailand's Sinphet Kruaithong (289-kg) took the bronze.
